You have a store on the Shopify platform but you are not satisfied? Or is it not profitable enough?
Indeed, the costs generated by the store can sometimes be insufficient compared to the profits of your sales.
Maybe it’s just the solution offered by this dropshipping or e-commerce platform that doesn’t suit you? Still, you can close your account or simply suspend it whenever you want. In this article, I explain how to delete your Shopify store and I present you the best alternatives: Dropizi and WiziShop platforms.
Things to know before closing your Shopify store
Proceeding to close your store is not very complex, but it does involve a number of things to keep in mind, or else you’ll end up paying fees unnecessarily. By the way, I advise you to always weigh the pros and cons of this type of offer thanks to the trial period offered before committing yourself. Nevertheless, you can always change your mind or look for a solution more adapted to your activity.
Here is some useful information before you cancel your Shopify subscription.
There is no refund for your subscription
Before you close your Shopify store, there are several important things to know. First of all, the platform does not issue refunds. There is no recourse for you as the terms and conditions are very clear on this.
If you have started the current month, you lose the money you invested.
That’s why the 14-day trial period offered by Shopify is useful to check if the store is right for you. At the end of this time, you will not have to do anything to cancel your account. If you don’t choose a package, it will be deleted.
Also, make sure that all your payments have been made, otherwise, you will not be able to close the store in case of unpaid bills.
If everything has been paid, you will not receive any more invoices after the store is closed. It will then be impossible to access your administration space.
Save your customer information
As it will not be possible to access your dashboard later, remember to save your customer base and all your invoices. Take screenshots of your data if you want to analyze some of them later. This can be useful to build a more efficient strategy if you intend to create a new store via another solution.
Terminating applications linked to your Shopify store
Some of the third-party apps associated with Shopify such as Biganalytiks are paid for in the form of monthly payments. Check the start date of your app subscriptions to determine the best time to stop them without paying unnecessarily. Generally, these are charged for 30 consecutive days.
As for the credits offered by the platform for the subscription of the applications
They are non-refundable because they do not correspond to a sum of money that can be used outside the purchase of the apps. They will therefore be permanently lost. Moreover, if you have subscribed to some applications via other providers, you will have to cancel them with each of them. This is because when Shopify closes your account, it will not handle the termination of these subscription offers that do not depend on its interface. Make a list of the apps you use so you don’t forget anything.
Delete the ones that belong to Shopify app.
For each app, whose service is installed outside of the Shopify app, check via external access that it is disabled. You won’t have any unpleasant surprises.
Transferring your domain names
In the case of domain names purchased through Shopify, you will have to transfer them to your new hosting platform or service provider. If your domain name was created before you signed up and imported into Shopify, then simply delete it from the store, and change the DNS settings of your hosting provider.
How to delete your Shopify account?
Your decision is made and you have checked all the details above? Then here is the procedure to delete your Shopify account in a few clicks. You will have to do it manually from your admin panel, Shopify support does not support this formality.
Log in to your account via your personal area as the store owner. Then, on your dashboard, select the “Close your store” option.
The administration area then offers several options. In the “Store status” section, select “Close store” again.
A new window will open and will offer you to contact Shopify support. A menu will also appear with several closing reasons. Select the one that suits you, and then select “Close Shop” again.
Confirmation that your Shopify store has been closed will appear in another window. If you try to log back into your administration, the platform will offer to reactivate the store by choosing a new package and re-entering your payment information.
Suspend or delete your Shopify store?
Suspending your Shopify store
If for any reason you’d rather suspend your Shopify store than close it, you can. This gives you the opportunity to keep all your products online and reactivate them easily. I’ll explain the procedure to you.
You will still have your online store
You will be able to access the administration space, under conditions, but purchases and payments will be suspended. However, in case of suspension, you will still pay a subscription fee, which will be reduced by about half, but which will guarantee the preservation of the store’s information and online products.
You will have to select a “Pause” package, valid for 3 months maximum.
Remember also to deactivate all the applications you have subscribed to in order not to pay for them during this suspension period: this does not interrupt the payments linked to the use of these applications.
Here are the steps to follow:
- As indicated in the deletion procedure, log in as the store owner;
- Go to “Settings”;
- In “Shop Status”, click on “Suspend Shop”;
- Click on “Suspend Shop” again in the new window;
- Confirm the information presented in the “Billing Cycle” section.
The “Pause and Build” package allows you to suspend the store and access the administration.
You will be able to make changes or retrieve the necessary data.
Visitors will see a temporary closure message when they visit the store. The “Pause” package takes the store offline but does not allow any access to your administration.
Reactivating your Shopify store
If you want to reactivate your store afterward, you will have to go to the “Settings” section of your admin panel. Then, you will have a choice to make in the next section: “Compare plans”. Your old plan will not be reactivated by default.

Then reactivate the payments on the store with the validation of your payment cycle, that is to say by filling in your bank details again. However, Shopify guarantees that you will be able to retrieve all your data for 90 days so that you can reopen your store without difficulty.
